WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK

My name is Sarah Iannucci, DO. I am a practicing psychiatrist with over 17 years’ experience treating patients with depression in a wide range of settings. I also suffered from depression for many years myself.

In my work with clients as well as in my own experience as a patient with depression, I have encountered little satisfaction with the usual approach to treatment. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Sarah Iannucci is a Board Certified adult psychiatrist. After completing her undergraduate studies in biology and cultural anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, she received her medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed both a Residency in General Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital through the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine. During her residency training she also spent two years studying in the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course with the Florida Psychoanalytic Center. She was subsequently given the annual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Award by the Psychoanalytic Society in Conjunction with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. During her training she received recognition for her work with inpatient and outpatient Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder patients at the Miami Veteran’s Association Medical Center.

Dr. Iannucci has over 17 years of clinical experience across a variety of different psychiatric populations and treatment environments. She has practiced in forensic settings that include the Miami-Dade County Department of Corrections, and the Miami Special Processing Center for the Department of Homeland Security Immigration Health Service. She has also worked in substance abuse treatment, acute inpatient mental health, day treatment programs, and a number of different outpatient offices in different parts of the country. She ran a private practice in Fairfax County, Virginia for 9 years before transitioning to emergency and consultation psychiatry on a telemedicine platform. After gaining 3 years of telepsychiatry experience, she decided to return to private practice, this time in a telepsychiatry format.

Dr. Iannucci’s current area of professional focus is evolutionary psychiatry, which is the study of how our early development as a species impacts our mental health in the modern world.
